Save the Art; Save the World
You learn a lot from drawing headshots. Anyway, these are pictures of my Nightelf, Rhilleandrae, and my Draenei mage alt. Nightelves have ridiculously long eyebrows, and I never could figure out whether Draenei have ears or not or what they look like if they do; however, they do have horns!
looks like you're using construction lines and stuff
Heh, yep. That and The Art of World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade when I was stuck on some places. The lines and graphs really helped in the profile shots, once I knew which ones to use.
But omg, I fear drawing the whole human body even though I know I have to. I'm seriously considering finding a drawing class to take.
And you draw lightly which makes changes soooo much easier. Have any of your artistic researches introduced you to the 'eight heads' rule yet??
I really like the pose with your girl looking down... what exactly is a Draenei...? *is WoW illiterate*
I like that one and the one of my Nightelf in the top left corner.
I have yet to hear of this 'eight heads' rule. Feel free to educate me. ;)
The Draenei is one of the newest races in the WoW expansion set. They're a race of aliens who crashed onto the planet. Some of the Alliance races, like the Nightelves, mistake them for something evil, but they're really good. They have horns and hooves, and they do this really neat pose when they jump. They also have Russian accents. Heh.
Russian accents? LOL that's awesome. They're genetically altered Russian super-soldiers. They're obviously there to infiltrate the Alliance and bring back the secret of the Nightelves ridiculously long eyebrows to their superiors.
Eight heads rule (and you can use it loosely.... most comic artists seem to): The human body is roughly eight heads tall. One head is obviously the head, the next ends roughly at the nipples, the next hits the waist, the next the crotch and the last four are in the legs, at your discretion. Lotsa anime artists squash the torso into three heads and lengthen the legs to five.
It's helpful for getting 'proper' proportions for a standing character but also when you're not drawing the whole body, so you can take the head and measure if the neck is too long, or the boobs are too high/low. :)
Hope that was helpful and not too confusing! I'll sketch you an example if you need. :)
You should mention that to thescythefiles
. I'm sure they'd find your Draenei theories excellent material for fanfic.... On second thought, maybe that's not such a good idea. 0_o I've heard about what they're written.
I'd love a sketch to see what you mean. Anything else I need to know?
